M30272M - Overhauling the carriage apparatus equipment

The new bottom side placed on the coach chassisThe picture on the left shows two carriage apparatus bedplates, which are used to hold the carriage apparatus onto the sides of a TPO coach.

The one on the right is the one removed from M30272M, whilst the one on the left is the 'spare' that came with the coach. Note: The spare is 'as new' and has not been used on any TPO before. The one from M30272M has corroded severely and as such weighs much less than the 'new' one.

The 'new' one is being restored for use on the coach, with the original one being used as a pattern for future use.

Note: These are 'handed', so there are two left hand and two right hand guides - one set for each door.

The new net lever and counter balance weight support14th March 2004

The new net lever constructed during 2003 has been painted in undercoat and is seen here after the second coat had been applied. It was the one major part of the apparatus equipment that did not come with the coach, so drawings have been made of the ones at Butterley and Didcot and our own Jon Cooper has made this one from scratch. Immediately next to the lever is the rodding used to hold the counter balance weights to the end of the lever.

In the background can be seen various sections of signalling equipment for the new signal at "Sutton Cross".

The new net lever is seen in its red top coat and is also fitted to the net lever pivot (seen clamped to the bench using two G-Clamps.
