The remainder of the coach showing the wooden structure after all the remaining sheet metalwork had been removed. |
14th September 2002The "bottomside" on the fitting side of the coach at the non apparatus end. This section will be replaced with new. In order that this can be done the corner piece on the right will have to be taken off, several large bolts bolt this to the upright immediately to its left. The knee bracket in the centre of the picture will also be replaced; two bolts secure this to the bottomside (which are visible). These bolts can only be installed before the new bottomside is installed, the bolts that go through the upright in the middle must then be put in before the corner piece goes back on, due to these bolts not going the whole way through both uprights. Confused? All this has to be photographed, drawn, labelled and described before it is taken apart so that it all goes back together in the right order. |
3rd November 2002The area of the coach where one of the registered fittings is located. Note the blue paintwork, this being the colour scheme that the carriage was painted in when it was withdrawn from service. The other side of the coach (apparatus side) had a grey colour for the upper half of the body. Traces of the original green colour scheme can be seen below the blue. |
One of the other areas on the fitting side where virtually all the blue paint has peeled off to reveal the green paintwork. Note the bare area, including the lighter colouring of the floor, this is where one of the cupboards is located underneath the bench that runs along this side of the coach.Samples of the green paint have been sent away for analysis so that we can get an exact match for when we come to paint the inside of the coach. |
9th November 2002The floor has now been removed from the fitting side of the coach to reveal the condition of the bottomside and the chassis behind the headstock, both are in good condition with just a small length of bottomside to be replaced. The headstock area appears to be in good condition and will not need as much work as was required at the other end of the coach. The picture shows the area of the chassis behind the headstock. |
