The following pages describe the history of London Midland & Scottish Railway built 'Full Brake' (LMS BG) 30976 since it was built in 1939 through to the present day and its current preservation at the Nene Valley Railway. Technical details of the coach and other design details are listed on the first page of information, which also includes a list of other vehicles built to the same design as 30976. The information that we have on its service with BR is very limited, apart from the fact that it was transferred to departmental service. Any additional information on its BR service history would be appreciated. Upon withdrawal from service 30976 was purchased for use on the Llangollen Railway and moved there in 1989, where it spent all its time in use as a stores van. In 1999 the owner decided to sell the vehicle and advertised the vehicle as being available. The NVR's TPO group inspected the vehicle and made an offer for the vehicle which was accepted. The vehicle was then moved to Wansford in September 2000 and is seen soon after arrival. Work on 30976 has been limited to just tidying up until time permits us to fully restore the vehicle. |
