Sunday morning arrived and the clouds started to gather, luckily no rain fell during the day.
The first run of the day sees the gate in position and the pouches waiting to be collected.
31108 passes on the non stop run from Orton Mere.
If you look closely you will see that the first pouch has been despatched and that the traductor arm is still returning to the upright position. The second and third pouch will soon be despatched while the standards still hold the pouches waiting for the carriage nets to collect them.
Note that the traductor arms on the right hand side show clearly the cord that is used to pull the traductor arms back into the coach in case of problems. The string tied around the clasps (that hold the pouch to the traductor arm) can also be seen.
Another view of 31108 exchanging mail at speed.
5224 on the 10:45 passenger ex Wansford, as it storms past Sutton Cross.
Note that the standards are in the out of use position.
5224 and crew pass the apparatus.
Deltic D9009 "Alycidon" had a few problems on its passenger turn (12:50 ex Peterborough). 34081 "92 Squadron" was sent from Wansford to assist and is seen double heading with the Deltic at Sutton Cross. It should be noted that a member of the Mayflower group had solved D9009's problems before 34081 arrived.
The last two runs of the day (and of the event) were performed by D9009 "Alycidon". Here we see the first run approaching the exchange equipment with the pouches and net in position.
The final run is seen as it passes the equipment. Note that this was the first time that 814 had despatched 4 pouches to the lineside equipment at the NVR.
