D306 "Atlantic Conveyor" departs Wansford with the first passenger train of the day for Peterborough Nene Valley. |
1306 "Mayflower" arrives at Orton Mere with the first TPO train of the day. |
1306 waits to run round its train at Orton Mere. 1306 can not run round until D306 has returned from Peterborough with its passenger train. |
D306 runs into platform 1 at Orton Mere, passing 1306 in platform 2. Once D306 had departed for Wansford with its train 1306 would be able to run round the TPO set and would then proceed back to Wansford, but only after D306 had arrived at Wansford. |
Austerity 75006 passing Sutton Cross with a passenger train for Peterborough Nene Valley. The sun was shining, but clouds could be seen gathering on the horizon. |
D306 takes its turn to operate the TPO exchange equipment and is seen here setting back from Sutton Cross. Rain had already started to fall at this point and the lineside crew would become soaked (something the staff on the train found extremely funny, considering they were nice and dry inside the coach). |
At around about 12:45, D306 performs the exchange during a down pour, the hardy souls watching the exchange taking what little shelter there is available.Imagine, in years gone by, when the postman would have to perform the task of setting up the lineside apparatus, in the pitch blackness of night, driving rain and still have to carry the pouches too and from the lineside. |
The exchange at 14:30 shows what a difference a short period of time can make. The rain has stopped and the sun is shining as 1306 starts its approach to Sutton Cross. |
1306 passing the apparatus. |
TPO 814 has now dropped the pouches into the lineside net and collected the pouches from the lineside standards. |
While the TPO set picks up the passengers from the lineside the locomotive's footplate staff pose for the camera. Left to right; Neil Boden and George Saville. |
The parting shot ... one of tranquillity at Orton Mere. No trains, no people, no rubbish, just calm. |
